Strengthening Supply Chains: Leading Companies Publicly Report on Ganapati Initiative Participation

Several of the world’s leading consumer goods companies, including The Hershey Company, Nestlé, Unilever, Reckitt, PepsiCo, and Kellanova, have highlighted their commitment to human rights by reporting on their participation in the Ganapati Initiative in their human rights due diligence report and modern slavery statement.

From 2023 to 2024, the pilot phase of the Ganapati Initiative was launched in partnership with AIM-Progress, with these companies taking part over an 18-month period. The Ganapati Initiative is a systems-focused programme that directly works with suppliers, rights-holders, and communities to strengthen responsible recruitment practices. Its approach is centered on building long-term capability, not conducting short-term audits.

This practical programme provides in-depth training and direct support to suppliers across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam to help prevent and address recruitment fees, reduce the risk of forced labour, and improve conditions for migrant workers. The Ganapati Initiative supports suppliers to:

  • Prevent, mitigate, and remediate the payment of recruitment fees for migrant workers.
  • Strengthen labour standards and policies for worker’s rights.
  • Empower suppliers to build sustainable, responsible recruitment processes.
